Nike to cut 1400 jobs in operations and technology

Nike Chief Operating Officer Venkatesh Alagirisamy wrote that the company is in the "final phase" of its "Win Now" turnaround plan. The changes include streamlining manufacturing processes, reallocating resources, and restructuring Nike's technology team. This will lead to the elimination of 1400 jobs across its global operations.

This is the second round of layoffs this year; in January, Nike announced it would cut approximately 800 jobs as it consolidated its U.S. distribution center operations at facilities in Tennessee and Mississippi. Just a few weeks later, Converse also announced job cuts, although the number of employees affected was not disclosed at the time.

The company is also upgrading Air production at its facilities in the United States and Vietnam to improve efficiency, increase flexibility and support future product innovation.

Additionally, Converse intends to relocate some of its manufacturing and engineering departments closer to its manufacturing partners. The company aims to optimize its supply chain to speed up production and decision-making processes.

According to Worldfootwear.com, Nike's plan to reorganize its business is taking longer than expected. In March, the company reported that its net profit for the third quarter of fiscal year 2026 fell 35% to $520 million, compared to $794 million for the same period last fiscal year. Diluted earnings per share fell from 54 cents to 35 cents.
