Novosibirsk is no longer the leader in the number of shopping centers in the Siberian Federal District and takes only the 11 place in terms of provision of high-quality retail space among cities with a million-plus population in Russia. During the 2014 year in Siberia, only 85 stores and 4 shopping centers were opened.
The indicator of provision of retail space per 1000 inhabitants was 247 sq. M. in Novokuznetsk, 227 sq.m. in Novosibirsk, 226 sq.m. in Barnaul, 197 sq.m. in Krasnoyarsk, 107 sq.m. in Omsk, 99 sq.m. in Irkutsk, 76 sq.m. - in Tomsk, and 35 sq.m. - in Kemerovo.
Novokuznetsk became the leader of the district after the opening of the Planet Novokuznetsk shopping and entertainment center at the end of 2014. Experts record the rapid increase in the number of brands and stores, as a rule, just after the opening of new shopping centers. “2015-2016 is likely to be an exception. In the current economic and political situation, new shopping centers are opening with a very high proportion of undiscovered stores, including in the Siberian Federal District, so there is no reason to expect a surge in international retail activity in the district, "says Andrey Vasyutkin, Head of Research and Consulting at Magazin Magazinov ".
