The French company Decathlon has signed an agreement on placing an order for the production of shoes under its brand with the Novosibirsk factory S-Tep.
“The goal is to place orders first for the local network, and if it is successful, for the global Decathlon network,” says Ilya Teper, general director of the factory. According to him, the production of footwear for the French company under its Quechua brand may begin before the end of 2015. These are footwear for outdoor activities and sports, not professional.
S-Tep already has experience working with federal specialized retailers. The factory has been producing shoes for Sportmaster for about six years, this provides about 20% of production volumes. According to the website of the Novosibirsk company, in 2013, it produced about 300 000 pairs of shoes. What volumes Decathlon can occupy, the top manager found it difficult to evaluate.
Decathlon 24 now has stores in Russia and 865 in the world, their revenue in 2013 amounted to 7,4 billion euros (data for 2014 have not yet been published). The company has a large portfolio of its own brands: Quechua, Kipsta, Newfeel, Oxylane, Kalenji, etc.
Decathlon began production in the CIS in 2013, says a company spokesman. For example, the preparation of the upper for shoes is produced in Ukraine, says Teper, skis and ski boots - in Yaroslavl. “We want to develop local industrial activities in order to support the development of the company in Russia,” commented the representative of Decathlon.
