The volume of sales of retailers that suspended their activities in Russia is almost 100 billion rubles

Analysts of the national labeling system "Honest Sign" studied the data on sales of footwear and light industry goods of the largest brands that have suspended their activities in Russia. The total sales volume of offline stores of such companies is almost 100 billion rubles.

According to Chestny Znak analysts, marketplaces can fill this vacated niche by importing goods under the parallel import scheme, and thus sellers of online platforms will be able to increase revenue by a comparable amount. The marketplaces themselves can receive about 14 billion rubles in the form of a commission.

According to the Chestny Znak system, shoe companies that suspended their work in Russia sold goods worth 51,2 billion rubles in 2021. Adidas, Puma, Zara, H&M, Massimo Dutti, Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton were in the TOP-10 companies by revenue, - analysts of the Center for Advanced Technologies Development noted. In terms of sales of light industry goods, the top was headed by IKEA, which also announced the suspension of activities in the Russian market. The leaderboard also included Zara, Uniqlo, Massimo Dutti, H&M, Adidas, Pull&Bear, Bershka. According to the labeling system, in 2021, the total amount of sales of light industry products by the largest companies amounted to 48,1 billion rubles.

“If current demand is maintained, Russian companies operating on marketplaces can increase sales volumes to comparable levels with the volumes of companies that have suspended their activities,” said Revaz Yusupov, Deputy General Director. — These goods will be imported to the Russian Federation under the parallel import scheme. Already, we see that many sellers on marketplaces have started selling goods of the listed brands using this scheme. Moreover, the demand for goods of these brands will remain consistently high for a long time to come.”

Many foreign brands have announced the suspension or termination of their activities in Russia after February 24, including due to possible sanctions by European countries. The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation has determined a list of goods, the import of which was allowed under the parallel import scheme without the consent of the copyright holder. The State Duma and the Federation Council approved the legalization of parallel imports of goods in Russia. Among the goods allowed for import, there were well-known brands forced to leave the domestic market.
