More than 170 American shoe retailers sent a letter to US President Donald Trump aleatherg them not to raise tariffs on shoe imports from China.
The letter notes that the proposed additional tariff of 25% will be a disaster for American consumers, retailers and the US economy as a whole. According to the association "Distributors and sellers of shoes of America", consumer spending after increasing tariffs on shoes will increase by $ 7 billion per year.
Currently, tariffs for all consumer goods in the United States are on average 1,9%, and for shoes - on average 11,3% and reach 67,5% for some products.
Last week, the White House published a list of Chinese products for which US 25 percent duties may be introduced. The list also includes shoes - from sneakers to sandals, golf shoes, rain boots and ski boots.
At the same time, only last year, the United States imported shoes in the amount of $ 11,4 billion from China.
