The Russian Union of Leatherworkers and Shoemakers appealed to the Russian government with a request to revise the size of the export duty on semi-finished leather. The Union asks to raise the duty from 10%, but not less than 250 euros per kilogram to 20%, but not less than 450 euros per kilogram for semi-finished leather.
The Union considers the justification for such an increase to be a reduction in the raw material base in the domestic market due to an annual decrease in the number of livestock, poor quality of domestic raw materials due to severe cattle diseases and rising prices for these products, the press service of the RF Ministry of Economic Development reports.
By a decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of March 16 2011, the rate of export customs duty on leather semi-finished products was set at 10%, but not less than 250 euros per kilogram and entered into force on April 16 2011, writes Finmarket.
