About 29% of Russian citizens admitted that they did not have enough money to buy clothes

The All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM) presented data from a monitoring study on the study of consumer opportunities in Russia.

The VTsIOM study showed a sharp decline in consumer opportunities for Russian citizens, from the peak value of this indicator, which was observed in the 2014 year. Today, about 39% of the country's population are people who barely have enough money for food and clothing. Moreover, among people of retirement age such - 54%, among residents of rural areas - 46%.

At the minimum level, in comparison with the May polls of previous years, there is a percentage of respondents for whom the purchase of food or clothing is not a problem, while the purchase of large household appliances and furniture is difficult (41% in 2017, 40% in 2016 g.). According to them, 17% of respondents can afford more today, (among 18-24-year-olds - 25%, among Muscovites and Petersburgers - 33%).

“The results of the polls confirm what we know from the statistics: the financial situation of Russians has worsened significantly during the crisis years,” commented VTsIOM Leading Expert Consultant Oleg Chernozub. - At present, the situation in this area is close to the situation of 2009 of the year - the worst year of the previous crisis. At the same time, our other studies show that public optimism and confidence in overcoming the crisis soon are growing. These changes are in good agreement with the dynamics of key macroeconomic indicators: GDP, industrial production index, etc. It turns out that our compatriots think much more soberly than is commonly believed in some circles: they judge the situation in the economy not by the immediate financial situation of their own family, but taking into account a wider range of factors. A very remarkable conclusion, with far-reaching political consequences. ”
