Online second-hand platforms are investing in product authentication.

The latest high-profile lawsuit—Dior's case against luxury stock marketplace Showroomprivé—has forced online platforms to pay even closer attention to the authentication of luxury goods they offer for sale.

The resale market is growing, as is the number of second-hand goods on various portals. Having a high-quality authentication service protects online platforms from lawsuits from luxury brands, allowing them to grow confidently, and distinguishes reliable platforms from others.

"With counterfeit goods becoming increasingly complex, even luxury brands themselves sometimes fail to recognize fakes. In some cases, they unknowingly repair counterfeit goods," notes Choi Jae, CEO of the South Korean online marketplace Bunjang.

So-called "superfakes" are a source of fear for everyone. These are products that are completely identical to the originals and often made from the same materials. As the secondhand market expands, authentication is becoming an increasingly important issue for both sellers and buyers.

South Korean online platform Bunjang claims a 99,9% item authentication accuracy rate, with its verification system capable of continuously learning and adapting to counterfeiting methods using artificial intelligence.
