Aymod Organizers Predict Even Bigger Visitor Growth

Turkey's largest and second largest international footwear exhibition in the world, Aymod is about to open in Istanbul from 28 September to 1 October. According to the organizers, the number of visitors could be about 30.

The information portal Worldfootwear.com quotes the chairman of the executive board of the Association of Turkish Footwear Manufacturers (TASD) Berke Ichten, who predicts that the Aymod exhibition, which starts at the end of September, will bring together more exhibitors and visitors than the previous one, which was held this spring. At the same time, it is noted that the latest fashion shoe fair Aymod broke a historical record - the number of exhibitors amounted to 424 companies, and the number of visitors exceeded 20.

“In addition to exhibitors from our traditional markets of Russia, the Middle East, Central Asia and North Africa, we are seeing a significant increase in the number of visitors from Europe and Western Europe,” said Mr. Ichten. According to his forecast, the number of visitors to the upcoming exhibition could reach about 30.

In 2021, Turkish footwear exports increased by 22,9% to break the $1 billion mark for the first time, driven by growing demand for suppliers located close to Europe, especially after global supply chains deteriorated during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year, the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine has somewhat affected the industry, with export growth reaching around 18% in the first half of the year. “When we look at wartime conditions in terms of our footwear industry, we see that our trade with Russia [Turkey's second largest market] continues in a stable manner, and shipments to Ukraine have declined, but not stopped,” says Berke Ichten. “Thus, we expect the growth rate to reach 20% or more in the second half of the year.” According to the TASD chairman, this will allow the industry to achieve its goal of achieving $1,25-$1,3 billion in footwear exports by the end of the year.
