This will allow the online retailer to save on paying VAT and customs duties, Izvestia reports. Products from Europe and the USA have already appeared on the Ozon.ru website, their delivery to users will be carried out by the German logistics operator Mainex. Thus, Ozon will begin to operate partly as foreign stores, which today have serious competitive advantages both in the price of the goods and in the requirements that are imposed on them. In particular, foreigners are exempt from VAT; in addition, Russian online stores, unlike foreign ones, bear the costs of product certification, warranty service and much more, while foreign companies may not do this.
According to AKIT, the Russian Internet trade market in 2015 is estimated at 760 billion rubles, of which the import of goods from abroad amounted to 219,2 billion rubles (in 2014 - 208,6 billion, in 2013 - 134,4 billion ). At the same time, the import market is growing faster than the domestic market, and the reason lies in the competitive advantage of foreign Internet sites over Russian ones.
