Pakistan records growth in footwear exports

In the first ten months of the current fiscal year (July 2021 to April 2022), Pakistan's footwear exports grew in value terms by 21,16% to $130,1 million. Leather footwear exports account for approximately 79% of the total, writes Worldfotwear.com.

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), from July 2021 to April 2022, leather goods exports increased in value by 9,98% to $515,4 million, compared to a revenue of $468,7 million recorded for the same period a year earlier.

During this period, overseas tanned leather sales totaled $172,7 million, reflecting an increase in both volume (46,4%) and value (33,4%) compared to the first ten months of fiscal year 2020-2021.

In the first ten months of the current financial year, Pakistan sent 15,7 million pairs of shoes abroad, of which 6,6 million were leather shoes (42,2%). Footwear exports for the period amounted to $130,1 million. These figures illustrate an increase of 21,16% in value terms and 11,65% in volume compared to the same period of the previous financial year.

During this period, exports of other footwear increased by 39,53% in value terms ($26,3 million) and by 15,31% in physical terms (8,9 million pairs of shoes). Export of canvas shoes, in turn, decreased by 26,4% in volume terms, but increased by 119,25% in volume terms.

The Pakistani footwear industry is mainly domestically oriented but is the 7th largest in the world. According to World Footwear 2021, 2020 million pairs of shoes were produced in Pakistan in 483, corresponding to a global share of 2,4%. However, footwear exports fell by 8% last year.
