Pakistan boosts shoe exports

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), from July 2022 to February 2023, Pakistan has significantly increased its exports of shoes, while exports of leather, on the contrary, have decreased, according to Worldfootwear.com.

In the first eight months of Pakistan's current fiscal year, which runs from July to June, leather manufacturers' exports amounted to $401,6 million, which implies a decrease of 4,92% compared to the same period last fiscal year. In addition, during this period, Pakistani tanners shipped 7 square meters of finished leather worth 200 million US dollars, which is 113,9% less in physical terms and 27,71% less in value terms compared to the same eight-month period. 15,18-2021 financial year.

In terms of shoes, from July 2022 to February 2023, the Asian country exported a total of 16,4 million pairs of shoes, generating a revenue of $124,5 million. and by 37,80% in value compared to the same period of the previous year.

At the same time, in the reporting period, Pakistan exported 7,36 million pairs of leather shoes worth $101,3 million, which is 43,55% in volume and 21,75% in value more than in the same months of last year. Thus, the export of leather shoes accounted for approximately 81% of the total value of exports in the footwear category.

Exports of other footwear also show growth. During the reporting period, Pakistan shipped 8,95 million pairs worth $22,65 million, up 33,98% in volume and 14,35% in value compared to the previous year. On the other hand, during this period, the canvas footwear segment recorded a decline of 7,75% in volume (80 pairs) and 24,64% in value ($540 million) compared to last year.

According to the World Footwear Yearbook 2022, Pakistan's footwear industry is the 7th largest in the world, employing about a million people. Mainly focusing on serving the domestic market, the country also finds markets in the US, Europe and Arab countries. China is Pakistan's main supplier.
