Pakistan bans imports of luxury goods

The federal government of Pakistan has decided to impose a ban on the import of luxury goods. This measure is announced as a preventive step, designed to prevent the threat of default and help contain the growth of the dollar against the rupee, writes worldfootwear.com.

The Pakistan Footwear Manufacturers Association (PFMA) welcomes the federal government's initiative. In a statement, the chairman of the Association, Mr. Zahid Hussain, stressed that this measure "will help preserve precious foreign currency, in addition to curbing the growth of the dollar." A ban on shoe imports will spur local production and also create more jobs in the country, according to the industry association.
