The largest international exhibition of footwear MICAM, which will run from 20 to 23 September, has started in Milan. This exhibition is the 90th in a row, and the first in the history of the event, which is held in such a truncated format.
For comparison, a year ago, during the 88th MICAM exhibition, the number of exhibitors of the event was 1303 companies, and the number of visitors - 44 thousand people. This September, only 500 participants were announced for MICAM, and the number of visitors, based on the applications submitted by buyers, could be as little as 5000.
The coronavirus pandemic, which blocked communication between countries, negatively affected retail and international commerce, and naturally influenced specialized exhibition events, the organizers of which are making a lot of efforts to make them take place at all.
The first day of Europe's largest international footwear exhibition was a reflection of what is happening today in the global fashion market, and what a blow to business and the economy from the Covid-19 quarantine - half-empty pavilions, lack of usual business activity.
It is worth noting that before the pandemic, about 60% of MICAM visitors came to the exhibition from abroad, with a significant number of visitors from China and Hong Kong. This year, due to restrictive quarantine measures, MICAM receives foreign guests within the European Union.
