Portugal records record shoe exports in the first half of 2022

In the first half of 2022, Portuguese footwear exports increased by 22% in volume terms and by 27,5% in value compared to the same period last year. Sales figures in foreign markets show record values, writes Worldfootwear.com.

In the first half of 2022, Portugal exported 40 million pairs of shoes worth 957 million euros to 170 countries on five continents. Compared to the first half of 2019, the year just before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Portuguese footwear exports increased by 12,2%.

Growth is observed in almost all major markets. In Europe, sales grew by 26,2%, driven by growth in sales in Germany (up 17% to €218 million), France (up 31% to €185 million) and the Netherlands (up 31,2% to €146 million). ). Similarly, Portuguese shoes continued to sell well in the UK, with exports up 34% to €55 million.

The country's great achievement was the growth of footwear exports to the United States by 66% to 55 million euros. Portuguese shoes also performed well in Canada (up 32% to €13m) and Japan (up 45% to €5m).
