The entire complex with production and warehouse premises of Ecco Leather in Dongen burned down in a massive fire on the night of May 4-5.
The 14 square metre warehouse caught fire, where, according to the company's website, 000 people worked. The fire brigade chose to bring the fire under control, meaning that instead of putting out the flames, they let the fire burn until it went out. According to the website omroepbrabant.nl, the firefighters tried to prevent the fire from spreading to the room where the chemicals needed for tanning the hides were stored. But they failed, and the fire spread until the roof collapsed. The fire was completely extinguished almost at dawn, around 200 a.m. on Monday, May 5.30. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
