Prada to release sandal collection in collaboration with Indian artisans

Italy's Prada Group plans to manufacture 2000 pairs of sandals in the Indian states of Maharashtra and Karnataka under a deal with two government entities, combining local Indian craftsmanship with Italian technology and know-how.

The sandals will retail for approximately 800 euros. The collection will go on sale in February 2026 in 40 Prada stores worldwide and online.

Prada's collaboration with Indian artisans is a response to the public outcry that was caused the appearance in the Prada Spring-Summer 2026 collection of a sandal model that was reminiscent of traditional Indian chappals, the KolhapuriThe fashion house was accused of cultural appropriation.

The solution to the controversial issue was the conclusion of a collaboration between Prada and Indian artisans.

“We will combine the standard capabilities of the original manufacturer with our production technologies,” said Prada’s chief marketing officer and head of corporate social responsibility, Lorenzo Bertelli.
