The right to a name

The Russian representative office of Nike sued its right to the nike.ru domain, which, until the decision was made, the court belonged to the owner of the caravan-telecom registrar. The relevant decision was made by the Moscow Arbitration Court on 15 on January.

According to the Izvestia newspaper, at the trial Nike lawyers proved that the defendant was not the copyright holder of the trademark of the same name. In turn, the defendant put forward his counterargument, explaining the interest in the nike domain by the creation of a site dedicated to the ancient Greek goddess of victory Nike.

The court found the defendant's arguments unconvincing, and ordered the transfer to Nike in the next month.

By the way, Nike lawyers questioned the good faith of the owner of the registrar company, pointing out that its founder owns more than a hundred domains - recognizable trademarks. Among them are names such as 7dorog.ru, don-stroy.ru, donstroy.ru, linux.ru, police.ru, thailand.ru and others.
