Sales of clothing and footwear in Russia in the first three months of the 2015 year were almost halved.
In January-March 2015, sales of apparel and footwear decreased by 42% in physical terms. In monetary terms - by 19%, to 523,4 trillion rubles. The largest drop was recorded in the middle price segment - up to 60%.
According to Yaryonsulting CEO Daria Nuclear, companies selling inexpensive clothes bought collections when the euro and the dollar were at their maximums against the ruble, and working with minimal profitability, they could not significantly reduce retail prices.
At the same time, in April, demand did not stabilize, despite the fact that the ruble against the dollar began to grow. For this month, sales fell by 53% in physical terms and by 21% in cash, to 142 billion rubles.
