Retail demand for pickup service is growing

According to Data Insight, in 2021, pick-up points (POIs) and parcel lockers have become the main delivery channels for shipments. Analysts estimate their number in Russia at more than 50, 40% of them are classic pickup points, 33% are parcel lockers, and 27% are pickup points that use the infrastructure of stores. The growth of this market compared to 2020 was 78%, and by 2025 it will increase by two to three times.

The company "Courier Service Express" has a developed network of points for issuing orders. At the moment, it has 10 parcel terminals (5 classic and 000 based on the infrastructure of retailers), as well as 5000 pickup points, 16 of which are own pick-up points based on branches and representative offices (franchising offices) in regional centers of all regions of Russia , and the rest are partnerships.

“Our network of our own and partner pickup points and parcel terminals covers about 3500 settlements of the Russian Federation. Even now, it can potentially provide twice as much traffic of b2c orders,” said Sergey Nagorny, Head of Partner Network Development at Courier Service Express.

The ongoing trend in the market of approaching the “last mile” to the final recipient encourages retailers to constantly improve the service by expanding the network of points of issue of orders. In addition, online stores are interested in finding new, more convenient and cost-effective ways to deliver goods. As numerous studies in 2021 show, the presence of an express delivery service for a seller increases conversion by almost a third. Therefore, now its main tasks "Courier Service Express" sees the provision of various delivery formats to customers, as well as the provision of comfortable service and a wide range of additional services.

Part of this strategy is the development of a pickup point. The company is expanding the range of services they provide: points that previously carried out only the issuance of shipments have connected to the service for receiving them. This will relieve online stores working with Courier Service Express from having to send their goods to large distribution centers or use the door-to-door collection service. Since March 2022, the reception service is already available at 1200 points, in the future their number will increase.

“Simultaneously with the development of our own base of pickup points, which we plan to bring to a single design standard, we continue to connect new partner outlets. Both large and small regional market players act as partners,” said Andrey Zadorozhny, head of the product and pricing department at Courier Service Express. “One of our main tasks in this area is to maintain a high level of comfort for the end user. This is facilitated by the walking distance of the pickup points, the presence of cozy client areas, comfortable tables for receiving and sending parcels, and spacious fitting areas.”
