According to research by the Association of Internet Commerce Companies (AKIT), over the 2013 year, the number of customers who purchase anything on the Web in Russia increased by 13%, to 30 million people, which is half the total Internet audience in our country.
The main driver of online trading in the Russian Federation are the regions, in particular, Rostov-on-Don and Siberia. Last year, there was the highest growth rate of the number of Internet users.
Despite the fact that Rostov and the Rostov Region are still inferior to Yekaterinburg and Kazan in terms of online sales, this region is consistently among the top ten cities in terms of turnover from online sales.
In general, there are several trends in online trading in Russia. First of all, it is an active regional expansion on the part of both federal and regional players. Moreover, exit occurs not only in large megacities, but also in regional centers and small cities within the region.
Another important trend in the market is the development of multi-channel formats by retailers, which implies the availability of various opportunities for a buyer to purchase and pay for goods: in a retail network, at a pick-up point, in an online store, using a mobile application or a mobile version of an online store, etc. . Traditional offline retailers go into e-commerce, and online sellers are actively engaged in the development of physical infrastructure, also using either their own resources or affiliate.
