Children's goods retailer Korablik is reducing its market presence

The chain of children's goods stores "Korablik" was reduced to 32 points last year; at the beginning of 2023, there were 83 stores in the network, writes Kommersant.

The retailer is reducing the number of retail outlets, getting rid of unprofitable ones, as part of the restructuring of an unprofitable company. In 2023, the revenue of Korablik-R LLC, the operating company of the network, decreased by 32% year-on-year, to 1 billion rubles, the loss reached 292,5 million rubles.

In April 2023, the founder of the Korablik network, Alexey Zuev, due to financial difficulties, was forced to sell the business to the owner of the largest supplier of the MTK Alisa network, Oleg Sokhatsky. A month later, the company came into the possession of the A&NN Investments fund, which manages the assets of Alexander Mamut.

The company's 2023 report states that owners and management have no intention of going out of business. It notes that the chain closed unprofitable stores last year, assessed the prospects for purchasing goods under its own brand, agreed with distributors to change supply conditions and optimized staff. If in 2022 the network employed 465 people, then in 2023 - almost half as many.

At the time of the purchase of the network by Alexander Mamut, Korablik had a significant debt to contractors, states the managing partner of Vanchugov and Partners, Alexey Vanchugov. According to him, “to develop such a business, you need significant investments and competencies in the industry, which only Detsky Mir has.” According to the file of arbitration cases, only since March 2024, suppliers have filed claims against Korablik structures for debt collection of 45,8 million rubles.

Among other things, experts note that developing traditional retail in the children's goods market is becoming extremely difficult due to the development of online marketplaces and changes in consumer behavior in this regard.

The Korablik children's goods store chain dropped to 32 outlets last year; at the beginning of 2023, there were 83 stores operating in the chain, writes...
