American shoe manufacturer Skechers has sued one of the largest American chains, Sears (more than 4000 stores), alleging patent infringement on its Shape-ups and Twinkle Toes products. “We have been with Sears for a long time, but even with such a large network we cannot afford to infringe on our intellectual property,” said Philip Paccione, Consul General of Skechers.
Sears sold shoes similar to the Skechers models beyond recognition, under the brands TheraShoe, Melrose Avenue, Paris Blues and Athletech, in Sears and Kmart stores.
“We are not commenting on the unfinished lawsuit,” said Sears PR manager Kimberly Friely.
