Socks brand St.Friday Socks noted that recently the phrase “we are rolling into the 90s” has become more and more relevant, and decided to remember how it was by collecting a collection of memes, common expressions and even advertising slogans of that time and using them in the design of its collections.
The “Comeback 90s” collection includes statements by the heroes of the cult film “Brother” about vodka, Yesenin’s lines about happiness and wine, inscriptions about suckers that local hooligans left in elevators and on the walls of entrances, and even advertising slogans for goods that are now prohibited to advertise.
In addition to cult phrases, the design of socks contains images of iconic things of that time - a pager, tamagotchi, floppy disks, audio cassettes.
"Comeback 90s" includes a capsule of 5 pairs of sports socks with the name "What happened. The design is based on a minimalistic print and inscriptions, which are not at all as simple as they might seem at first glance. Here is the modern meme “What happened”, and Mikhail Gorbachev’s winged statement about the feast of the spirit, and two pairs of black socks, either about crossword puzzles, or about the “Field of Miracles”.
“Recently, the public has been stubbornly saying that we are rapidly rolling into the 1990s. St.Friday Socks decided to play with these sentiments with the irony inherent in the brand. I wanted to revive not the old times, but warm memories of the attributes of the former life of millennials. We took stereotypical, banal, but very bright moments reflecting this period of time, reverently adapted familiar images and created an improved version of our own memories. We are sure that everyone is able to find a piece of himself here and for a moment go on a pleasant journey through time. Such a toe version of the iconic DeLorean,” said Sergey Tonkov, founder of the brand.
