After a period of traffic recovery in Moscow shopping centers, in recent weeks, retail market experts again report a systematic decline in store traffic. The reasons for this are the increase in the incidence of Covid-19, the associated strengthening of quarantine restrictive measures and the unstable economic situation, Vedomosti reports, citing statistics from the consulting company Watcom, which daily checks the workload of about 1000 retail facilities throughout Russia.
As follows from Watcom data, in August, the capital's shopping centers received only 6% less visitors than a year earlier, but already in September their attendance fell by 3% compared to August (and 11% compared to September 2019) ...
The decline in the number of visitors to shopping centers in Moscow is also confirmed by market participants themselves, who believe that the reason for this is not only fears of coronavirus infection, but also the general economic situation, reduced incomes of the population and uncertainty about the future. In today's uncertain situation, people try not to spend money.
In just nine months of 2020, according to Watcom, Russian shopping malls lost 30% of their visitors compared to visitor traffic in 2019.
