Russia ranks fourth in Europe in terms of retail real estate currently under construction in the country, follows from a report by CBRE consulting company.

According to expert estimates, as of the second quarter of the 2012 of the year in Russia (in Moscow and St. Petersburg), approximately 560 thousand square meters of floor space in new shopping centers were under construction.

“At present, about 7,5 million square meters of retail space is being built throughout Europe,” the report says.

According to forecasts, Turkey will remain the most active market - about 1,5 million square meters of retail real estate will be built there, the report says.

It is followed by Italy with a construction volume of almost 700 thousand square meters and Spain with an indicator of 612 thousand square meters of new retail space.

In fourth place is Russia, where 560 thousand square meters of retail real estate are being built.

The fifth place in the ranking of European countries with the highest volumes of new construction is Poland, where there will be 18 new centers with an area of ​​approximately 550 thousand square meters.

“At the same time, the total area of ​​shopping centers under construction in the UK (120 thousand square meters) is only 1,5% of the total construction area in Europe, which is much less than in France (7%) and Germany (6% ), where construction opportunities still exist, ”the report emphasizes.

The study also reports that in the first half of the 2012 of the year, an 51 shopping center with a total area of ​​1,5 million square meters was opened in Europe, and the construction of another 3 million square meters of retail space is planned for the second half of the year.

If the opening of all these shopping centers occurs on time, then in 2012 the area of ​​completed facilities will reach 4,4 million square meters, which is 25% more than the input volume of 2011 of the year, retail.ru reports.
