Last year, the shoe retailer Centrobuv became the absolute leader in revenue in Russia among the operators of its segment, follows from the rating of Russian retail chains compiled by Infoline and Retailer Magazine. Until now, this position in Russia was held by the German group Adidas.
According to the Federal State Statistics Service, retail sales in Russia in 2011 amounted to 19,075 trillion rubles. (+ 7,2% in the mass of goods by 2010 year). Of these, 9,1 trillion rubles accounted for food retail, the remaining 9,9 trillion rubles - for the sale of non-food goods. In the 30 rating of the largest players in the trading market in terms of revenue, the number of grocery and non-grocery chains is equal, follows from the top 30 compiled by Infoline and Retailer Magazine. Last year, these players accounted for 2,38 trillion rubles, or almost 12,5%, in the overall structure of retail turnover.
The rating of the companies that were rapidly growing retail chains included Tsentrobuv (an increase of 49,3%, up to 227 thousand sq. M).
Centrobuv also became the second largest retailer in terms of revenue growth, for the first time on the list of the largest 30. The operator’s sales increased by 58,4% to 29,3 billion rubles, which allowed it to overtake the former leader in the footwear segment, the German sports goods seller Adidas, which, according to estimates, made 27,4 billion rubles in Russia. The head of Tsentrobuv Andrei Nesterov believes that the network was helped by well-built logistics (the company's stores are located from the border with the European Union to Japan) and the correct pricing policy. “We determine it based on the needs of consumers, and not on the basis of our cost,” he said.
