2024 has turned out to be a much more difficult year for the Turkish footwear industry than 2023, said Berke Içten, President of the Turkish Footwear Manufacturers Association (TASD), dunya.com reports.
He said that the decline in exports and the explosive growth of imports in the footwear segment, as well as the daily closure of new factories, are causing unemployment in the country. So, in his opinion, when the economic situation improves, Turkey will face difficulties in finding factories for production and qualified personnel to work.
“At least, shoe manufacturers should be exempted from import taxes on raw materials and components, and taxes exceeding 100% on imports of components and semi-finished products should be reduced to a reasonable level,” he says. The TASD president believes that Turkey will be able to achieve growth in footwear exports again in the second half of 2025.
