Participants of the Italian MICAM are cautious in their forecasts for sales this season

From September 7 to September 9, Milan hosted the 100th edition of Micam and the 128th edition of Mipel, international footwear and leather goods exhibitions. 870 brands (401 from Italy and 469 from other countries) will present their new collections for the spring-summer 2026 season. Around 30 visitors are expected. The global fashion market is going through a difficult period, so the expectations of its players are particularly realistic, writes Laconceria.it.

The stagnation of the Italian market, the gradual decline of the Russian market and the closure of many traditional retail stores are creating difficulties at the start and raising concerns. “Expectations are lower than they were two or three months ago,” says Arturo Venanzi of the Franceschetti shoe factory in Montegranaro, an Italian commune where 20 companies are present.

Venanzi cites a lack of consumer interest in fashion and online shopping as leading to a crisis in traditional retail.

Italian manufacturers targeting the Russian market are also experiencing difficulties. "The cost of living in Moscow has increased, and consumers are trying to save on everything," explains Marino Fabiani. "The exchange rate is always unfavorable for us (above 90 rubles per euro). In addition, the summer weather is not conducive to sales. Therefore, there are large stocks in Russian stores. We expect a very limited number of orders."
