United Capital Partners (UCP) became a shareholder of the Monarch group of companies

The United Capital Partners (UCP) group of companies has acquired a 36% stake in the Monarch group of companies, which produces and sells footwear in Russia and Ukraine. Information about this was published on January 17, 2011.

The funding received by the Monarch group of companies from UCP as a result of the sale of the additional share issue will be used to expand the existing business in Russia, strengthen the chain's leading position in the Ukrainian market, and strengthen the position of its own brands. Within three years, the Monarch Group plans to expand its network in Ukraine to 130 stores and to 260-270 stores in Russia (currently there are 170 stores in the network).

Commenting on the deal, President and Managing Partner of UCP Ilya Scherbovich said: "The combination of many years of experience of the management and shareholders of Monarch with financial resources and UCP expertise in managing portfolio companies will allow Monarch to take one of the leading positions in the shoe retail market in Russia."

Yaroslav Zhivov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Monarch Group of Companies, is confident that the attraction of UCP will ensure the rapid development of the network, make the business transparent for investors and bring, in addition to capital, the most modern technologies of corporate governance.

“The company's immediate plans for 2011 include a complete re-equipment of the existing Monarch chain and the opening of new format stores,” said Evgeny Kalinin, General Director of Monarch Group.

For UCP, the investment in Monarch was the second in the retail sector. One of the UCP funds also owns about 30% of shares in the company Modny Continent (InCity women's clothing store chain).
