American fashion designer Virgil Abloh, founder of streetwear brand Off-White and artistic director of the menswear line of the luxury house Louis Vuitton, has died at the age of 42, according to the designer's Instagram account.
Virgil Abloh has been undergoing treatment for oncology since 2019. He is survived by his wife Shannon Abloh and two children.
Abloh will be remembered for taking streetwear to the luxury level, and for being one of the few black designers to head a major luxury fashion house.
Virgil Abloh rethought the style, adding to it the spirit of street fashion, the essence of which is a combination of different, often incompatible things, like in hip-hop, where everything is based on sampling and remixes.
