Belarus plans to create 2 shoe holdings

This was announced by Gennady Vyrko, chairman of the Bellegprom concern, at a meeting of the country's Council of Ministers. The holdings will be formed on the basis of the leading Belarusian footwear manufacturers - "Marko" and "Belvest". So, "Marko" plans to create such a structure on the basis of its own capacities, as well as the connection to the project of the Lida shoe factory, Smilovichi felting and felt factory and Vitebsktekstiltorg.

The Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich instructed to study the feasibility of these projects. In his opinion, the creation of such holdings would help to provide the domestic market with a large number of domestic shoes and abandon expensive imports. “What prevents us from increasing the production of high-quality leather shoes that we import today, about 9 million pairs annually,” the head of government asked. According to the Prime Minister, Belvest and Marco could increase production by 2-3 times.
