From Russia, it was forbidden to export overseas leather goods, which are also used for the production of shoes.
The ban on the export of "industrial" leather was already in effect - from October 1 to April 1 this year. And during this time, production growth has been noted.
The volume of deeper processing of the leather semi-finished product only in January 2015 compared to January 2014 increased by 2,4 times. The growth rate of production of all types of leather in February 2015 compared to January 2015 amounted to 116,5%, including the volumes of deeper processing of leather into finished leather and suede increased by 37%.
However, the leather production index from January - February 2015 to January - February 2014 amounted to 91,5%, which is explained by a significant drop in leather production in 2014 until the temporary ban on the export of leather semi-finished products came into force from October.
"The adopted decision will contribute to the sustainable provision of raw leather resources to the needs of enterprises in the leather and footwear subsector, including the guaranteed fulfillment of the state defense order," the government believes.
