On the night of the riots in Almaty, 11 Grazie and Kimex clothing and footwear stores were smashed and robbed. Igor Kuznetsov, owner of the retail chain of stores Grazie and Kimex, which has 25 stores in the capital of Kazakhstan and 75 stores in the country as a whole, estimates the damage caused by looters at $ 2,5 million.
“It all happened in one night of riots in Almaty. The most affected are shops located on the central streets of the street retail format. Also, some shops in shopping centers on the outskirts were looted. Central shopping centers were not touched. Showcases were smashed, goods were looted both in sales areas and in retail warehouses, trade equipment was damaged, - says Igor Kuznetsov. In total, 11 stores operating under the banner of Grazie and Kimex were attacked by looters. According to the entrepreneur, the government of Kazakhstan is currently promising to fully compensate for the damage. To do this, you need to provide purchase documents for the goods, confirming the amount of damage.
Mass protests in Kazakhstan began in the first days of 2022, caused by a two-fold increase in the price of liquefied gas. In some cities, and in the largest city of the republic of Alma-Ata, looting began, militants attacked state institutions, took away weapons. In response, the authorities declared a state of emergency across the country until January 19.
