The first Sergio Rossi collection, released under the direction of Paul Andrew, was presented in Milan. The British shoe designer took over the creative direction of the luxury shoe brand Sergio Rossi, part of the Lanvin Group, in July last year.
At the presentation of his debut collection for the Italian brand, Paul Andrew noted that the brand's late founder created "a lot of great things to draw inspiration from," but he himself wanted to "create shoes that are relevant today" without copying archival designs, writes Footwearnes.com.
Andrew has come up with a new concept for the brand's stores and packaging, which will be expressed in a new signature color of aqua mint. This shade was already used by Sergio Rossi in the 1990s. The chosen shade will appear on the lining of the shoes, and several models for men and women will be released in the same shade. Paul Andrew has also created a new monogram for the brand.
Among the innovative new items in the presented collection of Sergio Rossi shoes is the micro-kitten heel on sandals and even ballet flats. Beautiful and feminine sandals with thin straps are decorated with Swarovski crystals, rhinestones and beads on a strong nylon wire, "fitting the foot like a bracelet."
Andrew returned to Sergio Rossi's conical heels in boot models that give them a modish Wild West feel, and featured another of the brand's signatures - loose boots decorated with a cascade of ultra-thin studs, hand-attached one after the other, or in zebra print - a motif also favoured by the founder.
Another series of flat sandals and sandals features Mongolian lamb fur. “You wouldn’t believe how many of these we sell. People seem to like that kind of fun and chic in footwear,” Andrew said.
