According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), from July 2021 to March 2022, Pakistan's genuine leather exports increased in value by 8,46% to $463,9 million, compared to exports of $427,7 million. , which was recorded based on the results of the same period a year earlier.
Exports of tanned leather in the reporting period amounted to $154,5 million, reflecting an increase in exports both in volume terms (49,56%) and in value (36,35%) compared to the first nine months of the 2020-2021 financial year.
Also in the first nine months of the current fiscal year, Pakistan exported 5,84 million pairs of leather shoes worth $92,78 million. These figures reflect a 13,29% increase in the country's leather shoe exports in value terms. The increase in export volumes in kind amounted to 2,37% compared to the same period of the previous financial year. As for the export of other types of shoes, in the reporting period, the volume of exports of such shoes also increased, by 39,08% in value terms ($23,18 million) and by 14,70% in physical terms (7,96 million pairs of shoes).
The Pakistani footwear industry is the seventh largest in the world but is mainly oriented towards the domestic market. According to the annual World Footwear 2021, 2020 million pairs of shoes were produced in the country in 483, corresponding to a global share of 2,4%. However, footwear exports fell by 8% last year.
