Footwear exports up in Pakistan, leather exports down

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), between July 2022 and April 2023, Pakistani footwear exports showed continuous growth, while leather exports continue to decline.

In the first ten months of the current fiscal year (in Pakistan, from July 2022 to June 2023), exports of leather manufacturers amounted to $484,1 million, which reflects a decrease of 6,08% compared to the same period of the previous financial year.

In addition, during the reporting period, Pakistan exported 8 sq. m. meters of finished leather worth $842 million, down 140,8% in volume and 30,56% in value compared to the same period in fiscal 18,48-2021.

In terms of the footwear segment, from July 2022 to April 2023, Pakistan exported 21,70 million pairs of shoes worth $148,4 million. with the same period of the previous financial year.

Specifically, the Asian country shipped 8,58 million pairs of leather shoes worth $117,6 million, up 29,75% in volume and 14,43% in value compared to the same period in fiscal year 2021-2022. The leather footwear segment accounted for approximately 79% of all footwear exports.

The export of other shoes also showed good results, Pakistan exported 13 million pairs of shoes in the reporting ten months in the amount of $29,91 million, which is 45,69% and 13,66% more in physical and value terms, respectively, than in the same period of the last financial year. of the year. Meanwhile, in the canvas footwear segment, a decrease was recorded - by 11,44% in volume and by 10,69% in value.

According to the annual World Footwear 2022, Pakistan's footwear industry is the 7th largest in the world, employing about a million people. The country's footwear and leather industry is primarily focused on meeting the demand of the domestic market, while the main export markets for Pakistan are the United States, as well as some European and Arab countries. China is Pakistan's main supplier.
