After seven years of consistent growth, at the beginning of 2017, shoe exports from Portugal were on the rise again. In the first two months, shoe sales abroad increased by 6,4%, the volume of shoe exports from Portugal amounted to 16 million pairs, in the amount of 367 million euros, according to the Portugueseshoes information portal.
Deliveries of shoes from Portugal increased in almost all European countries, with the exception of the United Kingdom (a decrease of 2,3%). Sales in the European Union market at the beginning of the year increased by 5,8%.
In addition, sales of Portuguese shoes are observed in the markets of Angola (more than 190%) and in Russia (more than 22,9%), although it was in these two countries that 2016 saw a decrease in sales.
According to the results of last year, the export of Portuguese footwear reached its historic maximum over the last 15 years and amounted to - 1,923 million euros. It is also worth noting the increase in sales to foreign markets of component parts for shoes (up to 21,9%), leather goods and bags (more than 10,3%)
