The beginning of 2021 in Portugal was marked by an increase in the number of cases of Covid-19 (more than 10000 daily, with about 150 deaths every day). In this regard, the country is forced to tighten quarantine measures. Clothing and footwear retail stores are closed. Supermarkets and hypermarkets selling such products stop selling these products, leaving in their assortment only goods from the category of basic necessities, food.
Such quarantine measures will be in effect in Portugal until at least January 30. At the same time, shoe enterprises, factories will not stop their work, as they have not stopped it until now.
The Portuguese footwear association APICCAPS expresses concern about the development of the retail business, but is optimistic about the development of the online segment. Many shoe companies in Portgalia are restructuring their business processes towards online trading. Companies are trying to adapt their product portfolios, moving towards more casual and comfortable models, offering footwear for outdoor activities.
