The US has postponed tariff increases on Chinese shoe imports for a year.

American footwear companies have received a one-year deferment on increasing tariffs on footwear imports from China. An executive order published on the White House website clarifies that the United States will suspend "increased reciprocal tariffs" on imports from China until 00:01 AM ET on November 10, 2026.

Thus, tariffs on footwear imports from China to the US will remain between 20% and 27%, depending on classification, until November 10, 2026. The new rate range is an improvement over the previous one, as it is lower than both the temporary reciprocal rate of 30% and the initial threat of a 55% tariff.

“We welcome the pause on further tariff increases and are optimistic that it will provide much-needed clarity to companies’ plans for 2026 and beyond,” said Steve Lamar, president and CEO of the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA).
