Luxury brand Versace is set to release one of its most exciting sneaker models in June, writes Footwearnews.com. Dubbed the "Versace Mercury", the unisex silhouette features a complex structure of 86 carefully crafted components that are cut and stitched together. The top and lining of one pair alone consist of 30 pieces.
As Versace notes, it takes 27 craftsmen to assemble shoes in Italy. The design features elements often found in outdoor shoes, such as rope detailing and cutouts on the upper. The use of ropes is particularly significant as it references the brand's advertising from the 80s and 90s. Thus, each pair of Mercury sneakers consists of 16 meters of crocheted rope, with artisans devoting three hours to the hand weaving and application process.
Other sci-fi inspired design details include an upper with hand-woven laces, an EVA midsole adorned with the signature Greca pattern, metallic Versace branding on the metallic heel, subtle Versace branding on the tongue and eyelets, and a tonal Greca jacquard tape. .
The full Versace Mercury sneaker collection, including special editions, will be available in limited quantities on June 4th at Versace.com and select boutiques worldwide.
