Michael Kors has announced the release of two unique bags created in collaboration with ASHYA, a young accessory brand founded by Jamaican-American duo Ashley Simone and Moya Ennis.
The anniversary of the Michael Kors brand served as the starting point for the brand's collaboration with the young brand ASHYA. Thus, Michael Kors decided to celebrate the anniversary year by supporting the young developing brand. He offered ASHYA the global reach, distribution and platform of Michael Kors to bring the brand to a wider audience. In addition, he wanted to share his own advice and experience, as well as offer the help of mentors from his team.
ASHYA is a New York-based brand led by two talented and enterprising designers who incorporate elements, patterns and fabric techniques from West African culture into their designs.
“As a sign of exploring our roots and bringing the brand to life, we wanted to explore West African textile techniques in the designs of ASHYA x Michael Kors. We aimed to create something that would have a historical connection with our identity and would really speak of the special meaning of this partnership. African textiles were and still are of exceptional importance as a means of communication within communities and serve as a vehicle for stories passed down from generation to generation. The colors, patterns and decorative elements used have spiritual and historical significance. The aesthetic value of West African textiles is evident in the lines and motifs created through this collaboration, ”comment designers Moya Ennis and Ashley Simone.
The Moya Multi bag can be worn as a cross body or as a belt bag. For added versatility, it features two lined pockets with leather card slots and a roomy interior that holds all-day essentials.
The Ashley Bolo bag is just as versatile: it can be worn around the neck, around the waist or over the shoulder. It has one lined compartment with a leather card insert and is ideal for everyday items.
The collection will hit Michael Kors stores in January 2022.
