London-based designer Grace Wallace Bonner has once again taken a hand in transforming the iconic silhouette of the German Adidas brand's Samba sneakers. The latest Wales Bonner x adidas collaboration will feature two new sneaker silhouettes and a new version of their biggest hit.
Mirrored silver and black patent leather sneakers with a deliberately large tongue, specific hand-made stitching along the edge and lace “three stripes” included in the adidas collection for the Spring 2023 season and firmly etched in my memory. A new recognizable image of Adidas Samba was found in the collaboration of the German brand with London designer Grace Wallace Bonner, with whom adidas began collaborating in 2020.
The collaboration between Wales Bonner and adidas continues. The two brands' newest collection includes the Wales Bonner x Adidas Samba, Samba Millennium and SL 76. Each model comes in two colorways.
The updated Samba will arrive in brown and cream tones, with blue accents and a translucent rubber outsole.
Originally released in 2009 as an updated version of the classic indoor soccer shoe, the Samba Millennium will be getting two new versions. Crafted from nappa leather, with a green lining and rubber outsole, the sneakers feature a new toe shape inspired by the Adidas Copa football boots.
Rounding out the series is the archival SL 76. The upper features a combination of suede and mesh in light blue and yellow, complemented by black leather overlays.
The accompanying assortment of the collection included clothing and accessories - tracksuits, running T-shirts, T-shirts, shorts, bags and a Panama hat.
The Wales Bonner x Adidas Samba, Samba Millennium and SL 76 will release alongside the rest of the collection on Tuesday, May 21st on both brands' websites as well as select third-party retailers. Samba costs $160, Samba Millennium costs $250, and SL 76 costs $100.
