Wood and raffia, the main shoe design elements of the French house Clergerie, have become the main ones for the joint collection of two fashion houses Gabriela Hearst and Clergerie for the spring summer 2022 season.
The collection includes sandals with cork wedges, classic Gabriela Hearst sandals with thin soles with wide straps, flat shoes with uppers made of a combination of bright suede and raffia, brogues with cork soles, slippers with a mesh top and other models. Prices range from $850 to $1500.
Gabriela Hirst and Clergerie's collaboration began with David Tournière, a shoemaker from Romans-sur-Isere, a city that was once the heart of French shoemaking and has a history of over 120 years of craftsmanship.
Clergerie is the last remaining footwear manufacturer in the region. Wood and raffia are used in Clergerie shoes, two materials that compensated for the shortage of leather during World War II and became the hallmark of the Maison.
The raffia is hand-woven by traditional artisans in Morocco and the shoes are assembled in France at their factory in Romans-sur-Isere.
