Wildberries launched its own eco-data center in the Moscow region

The Russian online retailer Wildberries has launched a new data center, the largest object of the IT infrastructure of the online platform and the first data processing center (DPC) in Russia using direct freecooling technology designed for the needs of one marketplace. Its discovery allowed Wildberries to increase the manageability, control and reliability of the entire infrastructure of the company.

The Wildberries data center is located on the territory of the company's own logistics hub in the Moscow region. Its total area is about 16 thousand square meters. m, and the total capacity of all equipment is 3,5 MW, which is equivalent to the simultaneous operation of 2 thousand electric kettles. It has become the largest data center among the objects of all Russian marketplaces. Here, requests are processed from all systems of the online platform - the website, mobile applications, logistics and analytical systems.

In addition to the main data center in the Moscow region, the company's IT infrastructure is also located in several additional commercial data centers. This ensures its high fault tolerance: the uninterrupted operation of Wildberries services is guaranteed even if any of the data centers is turned off, for example, due to power outages. This reduces the risk of disruption of work stability to zero.

The new data center uses a unique technology of direct free-cooling - cooling servers with outdoor air without the use of refrigeration equipment. This approach allows the company to increase the reliability of the entire infrastructure due to the simplicity of engineering solutions. And also reduce the amount of electricity consumption, making the work more environmentally friendly.

The use of equipment with an open architecture (OCP standard) allows the company to completely independently maintain its work, eliminating vendor-lock risks (associated with the need to cooperate with a specific supplier).

The company plans to completely transfer the IT infrastructure to its own data centers, and the launch of a data center in the Moscow region was the first step in this strategy.
