German online retailer Zalando, which develops Europe's largest online platform for the sale of clothing, footwear and accessories, has announced its intention to cut hundreds of jobs due to the difficult macroeconomic situation, writes Worldfootwear.com.
“We have decided to launch a program that will cut several hundred costly positions in our teams. Over the past few years, parts of our company have expanded too much, we have complicated the structure of our organization, which has affected our ability to act quickly,” said Zalando co-founders and CEOs Robert Gentz and David Schneider. - Instead of a big company with a big structure and mindset, we need to be a big company with a small structure and mindset. An enterprising company characterized by simplicity, pragmatism and frugality. These principles will drive innovation and enable us to invest in our strategic goals and shape the future of European e-commerce.”
So far, exact information has not been provided on how this plan will be implemented and how compensation for laid-off employees will be carried out. The company currently employs about 17000 people.
