Prices for leather raw materials from India may rise

The Indian leather industry, whose export volume is about $ 6 billion, may suffer (in favor of China) from the recent ban by the Ministry of Environment of India to sell animals intended for slaughter, writes fashionnetwork.com

In recent years, the growth of the leather segment in India has been weak and industry representatives believe that the Indian government should have consulted with all interested parties before making this decision.

“China is already pushing India into the global leather market, and this decision will only play into the hands of the Celestial Empire,” said Alok Parakash, president of the Indian Leather Products Association.

Experts predict an increase in the price of Indian leather raw materials. While the competition from China in the leather industry is based primarily on price. Meanwhile, the Government of India set a goal to increase the export of leather raw materials by 2020 to $ 15 billion, from today's $ 7 billion.
