WTO threat

After joining the WTO, state retailers will need the help of many retailers, especially those dealing with online commerce. This was announced at the summit of Retail Business Russia 2012 by Andrey Chechin, head of commercial projects at Ozon.Ru. According to the top manager, soon a large number of foreign manufacturers and retail players will enter the Russian market, "who will be able to sell goods almost duty-free."

“We will face an unprotected situation, since we cannot yet compare with global technologies,” said Andrei Chechin. Therefore, Russian retailers need to join forces, including with the state, so as not to be outsiders before new players enter.

The speaker is sure that domestic online retailers are at greatest risk, since their foreign competitors have all the processes of working in online commerce for a long time already worked out and are cheaper for them.

The Protocol on Russia's Accession to the Marrakesh Agreement Establishing the World Trade Organization (WTO) entered into force on 22 on August 2012. Thus, the Russian Federation became the 156th member of the WTO. About it writes retailer.ru.
