In November, the Obuv Rossii group of companies launched the first regional data center in Khabarovsk in test mode. At the beginning of 2017, the new data center will already be fully operational and the entire Far East will be transferred to a new data center for service. The launch of this data center is the first stage of the project on decentralization of the company's IT system: during the 2017 year, Obuv Rossii plans to create at least two more regional data centers - in the European part of Russia and Siberia. All of them will be managed from the central data center, which is located in Novosibirsk. Total investments in the project will amount to 50 million rubles.
“In connection with the dynamic growth of the retail network, the launch of new services for customers two years ago, we were faced with the task of creating a single IT system to which all departments and stores of the company are connected. Then we launched a data center at our head office in Novosibirsk. - comments the IT director of GC Obuv Rossii Dmitry Karpenko. - Over the past two years, the model of our company’s work has become much more complicated: we have mastered new sales channels (online and mobile), we have earned our own Arithmetic financial services system. By the beginning of the 2016 year, it became clear that in the conditions of an extensive retail network, a large hourly difference between regions, the presence of several trading formats and an ever-growing list of new services, it is impossible to ensure uninterrupted operation and availability of a single 24 IT system 24 hours a day if there is only one central data center for the whole territorially and time-spaced company. Therefore, we decided to decentralize our IT system at a new level, creating several regional data centers. ”
The main objective of the project is to “close” all time zones; remove the load from the central data center; to increase the reliability and uninterrupted operation of the Shoe of Russia IT system. The launch of regional data centers will improve their manageability: it will be possible to regularly carry out all the necessary technological operations, which, as a rule, are carried out at night, which previously was not always possible due to different time zones. In addition, the dependence of the company's IT-system on the main communication channels located in Novosibirsk will decrease. In the event of a malfunction in one of the data centers, it may be temporarily replaced by a data center in a nearby region.
The project to launch the first regional data center took 6 months, most of the work on the decentralization of the IT system and the aggregation of all data from the regional data center in the central data center was completed by the Shoe of Russia IT service on its own. Also involved in the project: SoftLine company, which was responsible for commissioning, supply of server hardware and software; and the Utileks company, which supplied closed self-contained cabinets with the necessary technological equipment for the data center (air conditioning, fire extinguishing and power backup).
The Obuv Rossii group of companies was founded in 2003; its head office is located in Novosibirsk. The main business areas are footwear production, retail and wholesale of footwear and related goods. Obuv Rossii develops five shoe chains: Westfalika (mono-brand, mid-price segment), Pedestrian (multi-brand shoe supermarket), Emilia Estra (shoes boutique), Rossita (store for the whole family) and Lisette (fashion shoe salons). The shoe chain "Obuv Rossii" today has more than 450 stores in more than 100 cities.
