Tajikistan increases footwear production

As in most of the post-Soviet republics, in Tajikistan, imported goods prevail in the clothing and footwear market. However, the Department of Energy and Industry now reports that its own leather goods production has grown by 41% since the beginning of 2012. The production of leather itself has more than doubled. According to official data, the total volume of leather goods produced is close to $ 2 million. Including, the production of footwear in Tajikistan is one and a half times more (for children - 2,2 times more). Although the volumes of the times of the USSR (12 million pairs of shoes) are still far away - while the Tajik industry numbers pairs of shoes in tens of thousands, not millions, fashionunited.ru reports.

“At present, the volume of production of this product at domestic enterprises is only 5% of the needs of the republic. The main part of the Tajik footwear market was divided among foreign manufacturers, ”the local press quotes a representative of the ministry.
