As in most post-Soviet republics, in Tajikistan imported goods dominate in the clothing and footwear market. However, now the Ministry of Energy and Industry reports that its own production of leather products has grown by 41% since the beginning of the 2012 year. The production of the leather itself has more than doubled. According to official figures, the total volume of leather products is approaching $ 2 million. In particular, shoes have been produced in Tajikistan one and a half times more (children’s shoes are 2,2 times more). Although the volumes of the times of the USSR (12 million pairs of shoes) are still far away - while the Tajik industry estimates pairs of shoes in tens of thousands, not millions, fashionunited.ru reports.
“At present, the volume of production of these products at domestic enterprises is only 5% of the republic’s needs. The main part of the Tajik shoe market was shared by foreign manufacturers, ”the local press quoted the representative of the ministry.
